13 trafficked Lao females rescued

Police rescued 13 Lao women and girls who had been forced into sex slavery, officials confirmed Monday.

Officers acted on a tip that a karaoke bar in Bangkok was soliciting prostitution and used undercover officers to investigate.

"We can confirm that arrests did take place last night," Pol Lt Pongsak Trikong told dpa.

Six of the 13 Lao girls were underage and forced to work there against their will, he said.

The owner of the bar faces charges of human trafficking, soliciting prostitution and racketeering.
