The breakout happened about 10am when the paddy wagon was halted at a traffic light at Khlong Hae intersection on Lopburi Ramet Road in Khlong Hae sub-district of Hat Yai district.

There were nine alleged offenders in the truck, going from Hat Yai police station to the Songkhla court where police would request their detention be extended.

Police said they apparently kicked open the rear door and three of the nine suspects escaped.

They were identified as Boonchuay Saengsi, 29, Karan Sengthian, 20 and Benjapol Saichana, 25. One of them snatched a motorcycle from a person at the intersection and rode it away.

Police from Hat Yai station were hunting for the escapees.
