Policeman found dead from gunshot wound

A Bangkok policeman who shot his ex-girlfriend in the head before fleeing in his car with the victim was found dead in Nan province yesterday.

Nan police found two bodies with gunshot wounds to their heads in a Toyota Vios sedan, bearing a Nakhon Sawan licence plate, parked in front of Ping Luang tambon hospital in Na Muen district.

The two victims were identified as Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit Rueanyen, 37, of Lat Krabang police station and Rungnapa Tamoon, his 23-year-old former girlfriend.

Police and a forensics team concluded that a bullet passed through Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit's right temple and exited from his left temple.

A .357 handgun was found on his lap.

Rungnapa's body was on the passenger seat drenched in blood.

Police believe Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit committed suicide.

On Thursday, after the pair had an argument, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit shot Rungnapa in the head on the premises of Wat Thammongkol on Sukhumvit soi 101 before carrying her to his car and speeding away.

Rungnapa was arrested earlier this year for allegedly recruiting women into sex work and was later released on bail after Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit reportedly pledged 200,000 baht surety for her.

However, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit allegedly did not allow her to leave his house despite the fact that she had a new boyfriend.

Menathee Somchuea, the victim's mother-in-law, told police that Rungnapa was approximately three months pregnant.

Winai Tamoon, Rungnapa's father, said Pol Snr Sgt Maj Boonyarit was a hot-tempered man. The couple argued over the issue of adultery a number of times, he said.
