3 arrested for New Year's gunfire

Three men were arrested in two Central Plain provinces after a video of teenagers firing shots into the sky during New Year’s celebrations in Nakhon Pathom went viral on Facebook.

The firing of shots, believed to be in tambon Borplab in Muang district, sparked strong criticism among online users who urged police to take action against those involved. They worried about the shots posing a possible danger to the lives of innocent people.

In Nakhon Pathom, police on Friday arrested two men who reportedly fired shots during the New Year's Eve. The first suspect, whose name was not provided, was apprehended in front of Nakhon Pathom railway station in Muang district. Seized from him was a 9mm pistol and 17 spent cartridges, said police.

The second suspect was arrested on Wat Pho Road in Muang district with a 9mm pistol with four spent cartridges seized.

In another unrelated incident, patrol police arrested a 60-year-old man in Ayutthaya's Bang Ban district for firing shots into the sky to mark the new year.

The man, identified as Mana Krailert, a native of Bang Ban district, was caught on Jan 1 on charges of carrying a firearm and using it  in public areas. A 9mm pistol and 17 spent cartridges were seized from him. Police have asked authorities to revoke his firearms license as he was found to have used his weapon improperly.
