3 Thais, Lao held for wire thefts

Four men, including a Lao national, have been arrested for colluding to steal 150kg in electrical wire from a factory in Samut Prakan over the New Year holiday, police said.

The four suspects - Jullakiart Ariyawongpiya, 45, Phayom Watpimai, 44, Naret Rattanawichai, 30, and Lao Shinnakorn Phasuk - appeared at a police press conference in Phra Pradaeng police station Sunday.

Seized from them were a pickup truck, motorcycle, three wire cutters and a bag containing  naked electrical wire, Khaosod Online reported Monday.

Police said the suspects travelling via truck and bike had cut wires at a plastic factory in tambon Bang Khru in Phra Pradaeng between Jan 1 and 3 while the factory was closed for New Year's. The gang allegedly stole about 150kg of wire with a face value of 100,000 baht. The suspects were later apprehended at their house in Samut Prakan.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed they had stolen wire at several factories and on roads in Bangkok and Samut Prakan more than 20 times. The cables were sold and money shared among themselves, they told police. All were held in police custody for legal action.
