Another Facebook lese majeste arrest

A man has been arrested for posting to social media a message and pictures deemed insulting to the monarchy and intended to create unrest in society, police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said Wednesday.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut produced the suspect facing lese majeste charges at a press conference and named him as Pongsak Sriboonpeng, alias Leng, a native of Kanchanaburi. Mr Pongsak was accompanied by Pol Maj Gen Siripong Timula, commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division.

Mr Pongsak allegedly posted to Facebook under the alias "Sam Parr" a message and pictures considered insulting the monarchy, the spokesman said.

Pol Maj Gen Siripong said Mr Pongsak also defied National Council for Peace and Order No 58, which required him and other persons to report to military officials. A warrant subsequently was issued for his arrest.

He did not say how, where and when Mr Pongsak was arrested.
