Police following a tip-off from an informant stormed the room on the seventh floor and found Mr Kan-anek, a 64-year-old real estate businessman, inside with crystal meth, otherwise known as ya ice, weighing about 1.07g and paraphernalia used for taking the drug.

The informant had told police a hotel guest rented the room to take illicit drugs. Mr Kan-anek tested positive for the drugs in a urine test, and he allegedly admitted to taking them. But he denied police charges that he intended to sell the drugs.

He was handed over to Sutthisan police for legal proceedings. He was later released on bail after Mr Kan-anek's brother Kritchathakorn Pachimsawat placed 350,000 baht as surety.

Mr Kan-anek once hit the headlines for his remarks describing a bus driver and city bus staff as "uneducated and low-class" after his son Kanpithak "Mu Ham" rammed his Mercedes into a crowd at a bus stop, killing one woman and severely injuring two others following a quarrel with a bus driver on July 4, 2007.
