Myanmar woman killed on Samui

SURAT THANI — A Myanmar woman, believed to be aged 25-30 years, was found dead at a viewpoint on Koh Samui Monday morning.

Police and medical personnel found the body after being called to rocky seaside open ground on Thaweerat Pakdee Road in Bophut area about 9.30am, the Daily News reported.

Bophut police investigator Pol Lt Col Pongkachorn Pluamsoot said the woman’s body was found lying face-up, with her mouth and nose sealed by several layers of duct tape. She was partially undressed but there was no evidence of rape. A pair of orange high heels were found nearby.

Police said the woman was from Myanmar and  had been working on Samui island for only about a week. They suspected her ex-boyfriend, also from Myanmar, might have been involved. Her name was not released.

They said at least two people were involved in her death, given that they found two pairs of rubber gloves and a number of cigarette butts at the scene.

It was believed the victim had been dead for at least four hours before her body was discovered.

Pol Lt Col Pongkachorn said suffocation might be the cause of death. It appeared her attackers had intended to rape the woman and that she resisted and screamed for help and they used the duct tape to quiet her. They apparently fled after discovering she had died, he added.
