Sixty suspected sex workers, both women and transvestites, were rounded up, fined and released in Pattaya early today in one of the city’s routine shows at controlling prostitution.

More than 20 police and police volunteers fanned out across Pattaya beach in Chon Buri to arrest sex workers at about 1am.

About 60 offenders were taken to Pattaya police station to have their offences recorded. They wre charged with causing a public nuisance, fined 200 baht and released.

The operation is a regular occurrence in the beach town with critics complaining it is all for show and has had no effect in actually curbing petty crime or prostitution along Pattaya Beach Road.
