NONTHABURI - The son of a retired high-ranking police officer was shot dead by an unidentified gunman outside his house at early today.

Tiwaphan Pao-in, 31, son of Pol Col Anan Pao-in, suffered three shots to the chest and shoulders around 2am outside a two-storey house in tambon Bang Kra Sor in Muang district, according to Police Radio FM 91. Tiwaphan succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Three witnesses, including two policemen and the victim's year-old daughter, saw the murder, which also was captured by a closed-circuit television camera.

Witnesses Pol Lt Pakorn Jaipakdee and Pol Sub-Lt Kitti Rodbangyang said Tiwaphan was carrying his daughter to his house before they heard about five shots. One officer said he saw a suspect carrying a black bag, now believed to have contained a gun, run into a white Honda Civic with no license plate and flee after the shooting.

In the CCTV footage, Tiwaphan's daughter was seen trying to talk to her father after he was shot and fell to the ground, as the other two policemen took cover.

Tiwaphan's relatives told police that the victim previously demanded one of his debtors to pay back 10 million baht.
