B15m in suspected drug assets seized

Narcotics Control Board officials raided a house owned by the wife of a jailed drug trafficker in Bangkok on Wednesday and seized cash and assets worth about 15 million baht in total, Daily News Online reported.

The search of house No 40 in Soi Nakniwas in Bangkok's Lat Phrao district was led by by ONCB secretary-general Permpong Chaowalit and made under a court warrant dated May 5.

The house belongs to Benjaporn Srisuthat, 28, the wife of a drug convict identified as Tee who was arrested on July 16, 2012 with 94kg of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice".  Tee is currently serving time at Khao Bin Prison for hard-core drug offenders in Ratchaburi province.

On Jan 21, Samut Prakan police arrested Yutthana Thapchu, alias Bank, with 3,600 methamphetamine pills.  Yutthana said he ordered the drugs from Ms Banjaporn.

The information led to the Samut Prakan Court's approval of a warrant for the search of Ms Benjaporn's house.

Narcotics officials arrested Ms Benjaporn and seized 6.54 million baht cash, gold ornaments and other items with a total value around 15 million baht, all believed to have been acquired through the trade in illegal drugs.

The search was part of an operation to sever the financial channels used by drug traffickers, running from May 6-9 and targeting eight drug networks and 42 drug suspects in 44 areas of 17 provinces.
