Lao girl caught with 11,040 speed pills

A 17-year-old Lao girl was arrested by police in Ubon Ratchathani on Wednesday night with 11,040 methamphetamine pills she had smuggled from Laos for clients in five northeastern provinces, Thairath Online reported.

Pol Capt Rachen Hongcharee, of Border Patrol Police Sub-division 22, said the teenage girl, whose name was withheld, was arrested about 7.30pm in front of a Big C superstore in Muang district after she handed a number of speed pills to a police decoy.

The sting operation was set up after police obtained information a drug courier would deliver a large quantity of drugs to clients in southern northeast provinces.

The police found in her possession six bundles containing a total of 11,040 methamphetamine pills.  The packets were intended to be delivered to clients in Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Kalasin, Buri Ram and Nakhon Ratchasima.

The girl said she had been promised payment of 20,000 baht if she successfuly delivered the drugs from Savannakhet, Laos, to clients in the five Thai provinces. 

She said she was a Mathayom 3 (9th Grade) student who would move up to Mathayom 4 in three months.  She intended to use the money to buy a motorcycle to go to school.
