Phahon Yothin police have caught a 22-year-old man who was was filmed spraying an anarchy symbol on the front wall of the Criminal Court on Sunday morning, Post Today Online reported.

Nathapol Khemngern, a former humanities student of a university on Ratchadaphisek road, was nabbed late on Monday night at a drama-recording studio in Nonthaburi.

Footage from a surveillance camera showing him spray-painting the anarchy symbol, the letter A inside a circle, in black at two spots, one on each side of the Criminal Court nameplate, was a solid piece of evidence leading to his arrest, police said.

Mr Nathapol confessed to having vandalised the Criminal Court sign.  He said it was a demand for justice for a senior friend he said was shot dead by a soldier of the 11th Infantry Regiment while riding a motorcycle past Khlong Bang Bua canal in Bang Khen area on the night of Feb 8.  No progress had been made in the investigation into his death, he said.

He was initially charged with vandalism under the cleanliness act.

Police said the Criminal Court would decide whether to also charge him with contempt of court.
