Senior Makkasan police shunted over online gambling

Five senior officers at the Makkasan police station have been transferred to inactive posts in the operations centre at Metropolitan Police Division 1 headquarters in the wake of a raid on an online gambling den in Huay Khwang district on Wednesday.

The transfer order was signed by Pol Maj Gen Pongpan Wannapat, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1.

The five officers are: Pol Col Sorawich Phetkham, the Makkasan police superintendent; Pol Lt Col Jirawat Yodkra, deputy superintendent for crime suppression; Pol Lt Col Wuthichai Thaiwat, deputy superintendent for investigation; Pol Lt Col Nathapan Thamchutinan, the chief investigator; and Pol Maj Lathawat Pengchai, the crime suppression chief.

The five officers were ordered to report to work at the operations centre of the Metropolitan Police Division 1 by noon today.  They were to be assigned temporary duties there for 30 days, pending further orders.

The sudden transfer order followed a raid by 191 police on a luxury condominium on Phetchaburi Road where a room was being used as an online gambling business. Two Korean nationals were arrested and equipment for online gambling was seized.
