A man on his way to work was shot and killed by a gunman in Rangae district of Narathiwat province early Tuesday, police said.

Sakariya Saleh, 50, of Moo 3 village in tambon Bango Sato, was travelling on a motorcycle to a rubber plantation when he was followed by a group of men on a pick-up truck.

Near Bayo village, a man on the back of the pick-up truck fired three rifle shots at Sakariya, hitting him once in the head and twice in the body and killing him instantly.

The attackers fled, leaving behind Sakariya's body and his motorcycle.

Police were investigating whether the murder was motivated by a personal conflict or another insurgent attack.
