NACC finds ex-Hat Yai water chief 'unusually rich'

The National Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday found a former Hat Yai water-resources chief to be unusually wealthy and plan to seize his allegedly ill-gotten assets.

NACC secretary-general Sansern Poljieak said the NACC unanimously agreed to ask the Office of the Attorney General to seize 113.3 million baht in assets from Samart Jaisamut, former director of Water Resources Regional Office 9, as state property.

The assets, which an NACC probe alleged Mr Samart had acquired during his tenure in 2012-2013, are comprised of subordinated debentures at the Bank of Ayudhya (700,000 baht), lotteries of Government Savings Bank (107 million baht), land and buildings (3.5 million baht) and a car (1.3 million baht).

Mr Sansern said the OAG had petitioned Songkhla Provincial Court to impound Mr Samart's assets.
