Chumphon police arrested a 51-year-old woman caught with more than 200 million baht in methamphetamines in her car.

Chumphon governor Wongsiri Phromchana told a press conference on Tuesday that Siriphan Chatraweewong was stopped for a search at a checkpoint on southbound Phetkasem highway in Pathiu district around noon on Sunday.

Police deemed her suspicious as she said she had bought garments from Bangkok for resale in Hat Yai in Songkhla, but officers found no clothing in her gold Toyota Camry.

What they did find, in a hidden compartment in the boot, was 648,000 speed pills and five kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine.

Mrs Siriphan was quoted as saying she was hired for 300,000 baht to transport the narcotics from Muang district in Chiang Mai to Hat Yai, a run she had made twice before.

Chumphon police chief Wisit Sukornsep said that the street value of the drugs was estimated at 210 million baht and police were looking for her accomplices.
