3 Lumpini police transferred over bombing suspect tape

Three police officers at Lumpini Police Station have been transferred to temporary duties at the Metropolitan Police Bureau headquarters for 30 days pending an investigation into why they did not see CCTV footage of an Erawan Shrine bombing suspect entering and leaving a toilet in Lumpini Park.

They are Pol Lt Col Apichart Thongchandee, deputy chief of Lumpini police, and investigators Pol Lt Col Thanes Meethong and Pol Lt Col Vacharaporn Wongboon.

According to an order signed by Metropolitan Police chief Sriwara Rangsipramanakul, the three officers are to report to the Metropolitan Police headquarters on Sept 27.

Sources said that after the Erawan Shrine bombing, all police stations under the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Police Division 5 were instructed to search apartments, houses and rooms for rent where foreigners stay to look for suspects, but the three officers reported that they did not find any suspects or any suspicious images from closed-circuit television cameras in areas under their responsibility.

However, it was found later from the footage of a closed-circuit television camera that Adem Karadag, a prime suspect, entered a toilet in Lumpini Park to change his yellow T-shirt to a grey one before leaving.
