Chuwong shares case sent to prosecutors

Police have wrapped up an investigation into alleged irregularities in the share transfers involving the late construction tycoon Chuwong Sae Tang.

Pol Col Nasa Sawetlek, deputy chief of the Crime Suppression Division, said investigators had submitted a 3,335-page dossier to public prosecutors. The investigation began just days after Chuwong was found dead in a vehicle on Chaloem Phrakiat Road in Bangkok’s Prawet district on June 26 and his family raised suspicions about some share transfers.

Pol Col Nasa, who headed the investigation into the huge share transfers, said his team was confident the evidence was sufficient to prosecute the four suspects in the case but would be ready to collect additional evidence if asked to by prosecutors.

Chuwong's body was found in the front seat of a vehicle driven by his friend and ex-deputy commerce minister, Pol Lt Col Banyin Tangpakorn, who sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Pol Lt Col Banyin earlier denied he had a motive to kill his friend and had nothing to do with Chuwong's share transfers, which took place a few days before the car crash. He is charged with forging documents and cheating in connection with Chuwong's share transfers.

The same charge has been also filed against three women — golf caddie Kanthana Siwathanapol, 26, stock broker Uracha Wachirakulton, 26, and Ms Uracha's mother Srithara Phromma, 52. The three received more than 260 million baht worth of shares from Chuwong.

On Sept 28, another team of police carried out a test at the crash site by using a crash-test dummy inside a similar vehicle to determine how, and if, Chuwong died in the June 26 incident.

CSD commander Pol Maj Gen Akkradej Pimolsri said forensic police would conclude their findings in about a week.
