Two held, B30m in drugs seized in Surat

SURAT THANI — Police arrested two men for allegedly smuggling methamphetamine pills worth 30 million baht that was found hidden in their pickup truck.

Sorree Dorloh was driving a Toyota Hilux Vigo with a friend Arduana Arwae in the front seat when they were pulled over by police officers at a checkpoint on a highway in tambon Tha Chee of Ban Na San district on Thursday afternoon. 

Police searched the pickup thoroughly after the pair, both 40, looked nervous and found 50 bundles containing 100,000 speed pills hidden in the vehicle’s engine compartment. 

The men, one a Songkhla native and the other from Narathiwat, allegedly confessed that they were hired by a drug gang to transport the drugs from Bangkok and deliver them to a dealer in Tak Bai district of Narathiwat for 250,000 baht. They had been paid an upfront fee of 50,000 baht. 

Police are investigating further to identify other gang members.
