4 relatives nabbed for Korat robberies

NAKHON RATCHASIMA – Four family members were arrested for allegedly robbing several women driving motorcycles alone in secluded areas.

Alleged gang leader Thanong Korneowklang, 24, was released from prison in April and teamed up with brother-in-law Watcharapong Simsirirat, 26, and that man's two half-brothers, ages 18 and 15, to carry out the robberies, police said.

The first two men were arrested at a house in Pak Thong Chai district of Nakhon Ratchasima by Pho Klang police. Officers seized a motorbike, a mobile phone, three helmets and two jackets used during the heists. The investigation led to the arrest of the teenagers in Ayutthaya's Wang Noi district.

Pol Maj Gen Thakoon Nutthisri, commander of Nakhon Ratchasima police, said Pho Klang police were notified about two women riding alone being chased by two men, who pushed them over and robbed them.

One of the victims was seriously injured and later died. The two cases occurred Aug 31 and Sept 11.

Investigators checked on CCTV footage and were able to identify Mr Thanon and his vehicle and finally arrested him and Mr Watcharapong. The investigation then was expanded leading to the arrests of the two teens.
