A security guard at the Yala Provincial Court was shot dead while on his way to work from his home in nearby Yarang district of Pattani province on Tuesday morning, police said.
The attack occurred about 7.10am while Singha Wanthong, 37, was travelling to work on a motorycle along Highway 42 (Pattani - Yala).
As he passed in front of the mosque at Buketong village in tambon Khao Tum, he was shot by two men who followed him on another motorcycle.
Singha was hit in the body and the head and pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Police were investigating.
