Two Russians wanted in their home country and by Interpol for drug offences have been arrested after they had been in hiding in Krabi and Phuket provinces for nearly two years.

Pol Lt Gen Suchart Theerasawat, an assistant police chief in charge of transnational crime, said in a press briefing on Sunday that Roman Ledenev, 33, and Alexander Bukharev, 42, were arrested in Phuket on Friday.

He said the two entered Thailand with tourist visas. They are wanted under warrants from Interpol and Russian police on drug charges.

With the cooperation of Interpol and Russia, Pol Gen Wuthi Liptapanlop, the deputy police chief for foreign affairs, ordered Thai Interpol officers, special branch, immigration and tourist police to look for the suspects. A joint investigation led to their arrest on Friday.

Pol Lt Gen Suchart said the two Russians would undergo legal proceedings at the Immigration Police Bureau, pending repatriation.
