Woman raped at concert in Pattaya

CHON BURI---A young woman has told police she was abducted and then raped by a man she believed to be a migrant worker at a deserted house near a music concert stage in Pattaya in the early hours of Wednesday.

The woman, (name withheld), aged  20-25, went with friends to the morlam folk concert, on Thepprasit Road in tambon Nong Phreu of Bang Lamung district.

She told police she was grabbed, dragged off and raped when she went to a toilet near the concert stage,  Pol Lt Nakhonrat Nonseelad, a duty officer at Pattaya police station, said.

The incident was reported to police around 3am on Wednesday.

The woman said there many people waiting to use the toilet, so she walked to a nearby area to urinate. There, she was grabbed by the man, who forced her into a nearby deserted house, where he raped her. Her attacker spoke with a migrant-worker accent, she said.

A vendor, Warawut Sangbuakaew, 38, said he saw the woman emerge naked from some scrub near the deserted house and ask for help in the early hours of Wednesday. He and other vendors gave her some clothes to put on and shortly afterwards her friends arrived.

Police inspected the house and found the woman’s clothing.  She was taken to hospital for a medical examination. The investigation was continuing.
