The websites of Thai courts were attacked by people involved in about 10 internet protocol (IP) addresses located abroad, a spokesman for the Court of Justice said on Wednesday.

The hacking happened at 10pm on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday. The Court of Justice asked the Thailand Computer Emergency Response Team to investigate and it found the IP addresses, spokesman Suebpong Sripongkul said.

The hacking only blocked outsiders from visiting the websites while internal systems linking the Office of the Court of Justice and internal organisations continued to operate, he said.

The office would take legal action against the hackers. Offences covering disruption of computer systems and computer-based information that was a public service were liable to a fine of up to 300,000 baht and a jail term of up to 15 years, Mr Suebpong said.

Messages the hackers left on the homepage of the Court of Justice seemed to relate to the death sentences in the Koh Tao murder cases, but that could not influence the ruling, he said. Appeals were possible with higher courts, he said.
