German cries foul over LM Facebook page

A German in Chon Buri province has filed a complaint with police claiming someone has used his name and photo to create a Facebook account that displays anti-monarchy messages and shows disrespect to the King.

The petition was lodged by Pieter Mangal, 52, with Pol Lt Col Winai Horian, an investigator at Nong Prue police station in Bang Lamung district, Daily News Online reported.

Mr Mangal said he was alerted by a friend to the fake Facebook page which posted links to pictures as well as messages in Thai and English that were deemed offensive to the royal institution.

He offered 30,000 baht as a reward for anyone who could give information to police that would lead to the arrest of the person behind the crime.

Mr Mangal said he had lived in Thailand for a long time and loved the country, as well as had respect for the highest institution. He went to the police to report the incident because he wanted everyone to know he was innocent.

Pol Lt Col Winai said he had put the complaint in the daily records and reported it to his superiors. He said the crime was serious and police would try to arrest and prosecute the people behind it.
