One killed, meth seized in border drug clash

MAE HONG SON -- One drug courier was killed and 130,000 methamphetamine pills seized in a clash between a group of drug smugglers and a combined police and military unit in Pai district of this northern province on Saturday afternoon.

Col Chaidaen Krisanasuwan, commander of the 7th Infantry Company, said the clash took place about 7 kilometres from the border near Ban Muang Noi in Pai district.

After the clash, the authorities examined the scene and found the dead body of a drug courier, identified later as Duangkham Thaduangkaew, of Chiang Mai's Wiang Haeng district.

The combined unit seized a fertiliser sack containing 130,000 methamphetamine pills near the body.
