Pregnant woman stabbed to death

UDON THANI -- Police are looking for a man suspected to have stabbed a six-month pregnant woman to death with a knife in Muang district early Sunday, according to Khao Sod online.

Pol Capt Niwat Jaengkrathok, the duty officer at Muang district police station, said a police team, the staff of a medical unit from Udon Thani Regional Hospital and rescuers of a charity foundation rushed to Soi Pracha-uthis 2 off Adulyadej road in tambon Mak Khaeng on being informed that a woman was found to have been seriously hurt in the middle of the soi at about 1.35am.

In the soi, they found the woman who was covered with blood. She had been stabbed 16 times in the neck and chest. The medical staff tried to save her through first aid treatment but were not successful. The woman died shortly afterward.

She was found to be about six-months pregnant. An ID card found on her identified her as Chamai Ruangphueng, 31, of Sakon Nakhon's Song Dao district.

She worked as a waitress of a restaurant about 300 metres away from the spot.

A witness who worked at the restaurant told police that he saw Chamai walk out of the restaurant alone into the soi. Another witness said he saw the woman who was already badly injured and trying to ask for help. He also saw a man run away from the spot.

Pol Lt Col Channarong Makpisuth, a police investigator, said police were gathering more information about the man who ran away and would look for him for further investigationing to establish the reason for the murder.
