PHITSANULOK -- An elderly man has the Region 6 Provincial Police office asking for an investigation into the death of his son, who died after being beaten up while attending the ordination of a monk last month.

Somchai Seeha-ampai, 87, was accompanied by about 20 relatives when he sumitted the petition.

Mr Somchai said that on April 11 his son Sorasak, 45, went to an ordination ceremony at Moo 3 village in tambon Taluk Krathiam of Phrom Phiram district.

Late that night, his son was dumped on the road in front of his house. He had been badly beaten and was seriously injured.

Sorasak was admitted to Phrom Phiram Hospital and later transferred to Phra Phutthachinarat Hospital in the provincial town, where he died of bleeding in the brain on April 12.

Mr Somchai said the police had not conducted an investigation to find out who assaulted his son and caused his death. No witnesses had been questioned or other evidence gathered.

Mr Somchai said Sorasak, the 11th of his 12 children, was unmarried and never had problems with anyone. He suspected the fatal assault was the work of men in uniform or gangsters.
