AYUTTHAYA : Rap star Joey Boy has escaped injury after a gang threw a rock at the van in which he was travelling, shattering a window and nearly causing an accident. No one was injured in the incident, one of two rock-throwing attacks to occur in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district late on Wednesday.
Joey Boy: ‘Motorbike was tailing my van’
The same gang is believed to have attacked two vans in the space of two hours, police said.
Local police said a rock was thrown from the side of the No 356 Pathum Thani-Bang Pahan road at the van with Joey Boy and three other people on board.
The rock broke the window of the van but no one was hurt, said Joey Boy, whose real name is Apisit Opas-iamlikhit.
He said two people were spotted riding a motorcycle and tailing his van before the attack at 11.30pm.
The singer was on his way to Lampang.
On the same road less than two hours later, the gang hurled a rock at another van carrying seven passengers.
The pillion rider of a motorcycle threw a rock as big as a mango, shattering the windshield of the van.
No one was injured.
The van veered off slightly but the driver managed to regain control. The attackers fled towards the Asian Highway.
Van driver Akom Premsakul said he was driving his family home after seeing a friend off at Suvarnabhumi airport.
He said he made sure the van's headlights were not switched on to high-beam to avoid irritating motorcycle riders.
The poor road lighting made it impossible for him to recognise the faces of the attackers, the driver said.
A week ago, a truck driver was critically injured in a crash caused by a rock hurled at his truck.
Ayutthaya provincial police deputy chief Kornek Petchaiyawet said it was probable the same gang was responsible for Wednesday night's incidents.
