The Criminal Court has sentenced a webmaster to a year in jail and ordered him to pay a 20,000-baht fine for allowing an internet user to post naked pictures of a woman on his website.
The sentence was commuted from two years and suspended for two years, with the fine reduced from an initial 40,000 baht, because Phongwit Singan, 23, confessed to violating the Cyber crime Act.
He had been charged with allowing improper pictures of the woman to be posted on his www.postmungang.com site, a public photo uploading site.
Pictures of a naked woman having sex with a man appeared on the site from Oct 6 to Nov 30, 2007 and were viewed many times, while Mr Phongwit had gained online advertising revenue of 20,000 baht a month from the site.
He said he had given the woman 150,000 baht in compensation for the nightmare she went through due to her pictures being posted on his site.
After facing the charges in connection with posting the woman's pictures, Mr Phongwit said he had focused the site's content more on music and movies rather than encouraging users to upload photos.
He said it was not easy to control the about 100,000 member users despite his continuous efforts to delete improper content that was posted.
