AYUTTHAYA: Police are investigating a new form of underground lottery with a top prize of sex with a young woman.

Complaints have been received about a huai sieow (erotic lottery) operation, said to be gaining in popularity among male factory workers in the old capital, said Prawut Thavornsiri, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police (RTF) yesterday.

All police stations in the jurisdictions of Ayutthaya and officials with the RTF's Children, Juveniles and Women Division have been ordered to launch an investigation into whether such sexual lottery tickets are being sold in the province.

No difference. It's just prostitution with a gaming feel added to it. So what makes it any more illegal than prostitution?

It is wrong for them to say the girl is being sold for 30baht. No doubt she will when picked recieve her normal charge as their are more than one 30baht buyer. example: 30 X 100 = 3000 - profit = fee. Sounds like someone isn't happy that they didn't get their hands on the idea first?

If the plod can't find them the plod has been paid as part of the lottery, if the plod has not got their cut the promoters will be hunted down and told to pay up next time. This would work a treat in Soi Cowboy or Nana or Patpong. But of course only thai bar owners allowed, afte all they know who to pay off.

Usually when reading stories like this you get the feeling it is mainly foriegners buying these services.I live in an area in Bkk where there are hardly any foreigners at all yet you find thes karaoke bars all over the place.Girls that must be underage openly selling sex to Thai men.Massage shops were again nearly every customer is a Thai . . . . . . They call them servicegirls or as Disc15 say "bargirls" to make it sound better.Drive around public parks after 8pm and you will find plenty of girls selling themselvs for around 500,- (Mor Chit BTS) also brothels in many places that is in the open only short distances away from policestations.I don't think this will ever change in Thailand and like it has been written here . . . . too many pockets gets filled this way.Having to pay a family alot of money to marry their daughter is just wrong.

The whole affair is a comedy of errors and a perceived need to save face... Why are people so indignant about such a trivial matter when like things go on nightly at places like Soy Cowboy in Bangkok... Let's face it, prostitution is technically illegal however, because 9% of Thailand's income is derived from tourism and the sex trade, those in power - AREN'T GOING TO JEOPARDISE IT.

Women's dignity IS valued in terms of money in Thailand ask any girl who is getting married how much her father wants for her.
In the West they do not treat their daughter as a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder.

Men and women marry for love. And it is the brides father who pays for everything including the wedding.

Yes of course prostitution is worldwide

But Thais have no shame when it comes to prostitution it is just a means to an end.
Thais think if they call them " Bar Girls " it looks and sounds better than calling them prostitutes

Also in so called first world countries it is not the main multi billion Baht industry that it is here.
In first world countries even with our open minded approach to life Prostitution is still considered dirty and any women involved in this trade has sunk as low as she can get.

It still amazes me how a family especially a father can accept money from their daughters knowing how she earned it
That is why I have very little respect for Thai Fathers who are no more than ponce's living off the immoral earnings of their daughters.

You find prostitution in first world countries. Just because its Thailand, people like to bash Thailand. I do not hear anyone bashing first world countries.

what is it with all you negative commenting people.
Thailand has a population of about 60 million people
how many are considerd active in the sextrade 1%---2%
What i am trying to make clear is that the overwhelming majority has/will/doesnt want to be mentioned in 1 breath with this small minority.
I know that there are a huge amount of improvements needed in Thailand, improvements that took socalled treu domacraties 60 years to establish...and in many cases still struggling to get things right.
Sometimes its apropriate even needed to be negative about Thailand in order to make noise
but let us not forget to be positive for all the good reasons why we live in this country in the first place.........inviting.....smiling.....non restrictive society.

People are amazed by this? It’s all part of the lack of morals in Thailand and the downward spiral of Thai values. This certainly is not a surprise to most. Past stories of male cops soliciting sex from a female cop, child porn videos for sale at child eye level on the streets and the world-wide “big wink” from foreign men when Thailand is mentioned, is nothing new. I would guess that the real concern is the cops or higher ups not getting a cut of the proceeds.
