Court jails red shirt for rifle thefts

The Criminal Court yesterday sentenced red-shirt supporter, Kamla Chomchuen to 10 years in prison for stealing M16 assault rifles and ammunition from the military during the political unrest in Bangkok in May last year.

Kamla, 37, was convicted of stealing the rifles on May 14, 2010, and initially jailed for 15 years.

But presiding judge, Anchalee Ariyanantaka, reduced the sentence by one-third despite Kamla retracting a confession he made soon after he was arrested.

I thought that the Redshirts were claiming that no weapons were found inside the Temple.

Good idea. Steal the Soldiers guns and they can't shoot you. Nobody has proven he shot anyone with the gun he took. How can they prove that was his attention. He stole a gun. Charge him with theft.

I thought the red-shirt protesters were unarmed why did they need M16s? Maybe just in case!
