A survivor of a violent car chase said the pursuing car intentionally ran into the back of their pick-up truck, resulting in a crash and the death of five of his friends, when two youth gangs clashed in Bangkok early Friday.
The confrontation between two groups of youths led to a wild car chase, shooting and then a crash in Bangkok's Rat Burana district.
One of the surviving passengers, whose name was not disclosed, told investigators that her husband was one of the five people killed in the incident.
She said she and her husband, along with eight friends, went to a well-known pub on Rama III road. They left the venue about 4am.
"I was sitting inside the pick-up with four other people but my husband was on the back of the pick-up. He knocked on the window and told the driver to run the red light because a car was chasing them.
"The chase continued until the pursuing car shot out our tyre, causing the pick-up to lose control and crash. The car then ran into the back of the pick-up, knocking five people out of the vehicle," she said.
