Suspect ties top military officer to drugs gang

Police have arrested a major drug suspect whom they say admitted to acting as a drug courier for a senior military officer in Phitsanulok.

Niphon: Alleged Khun Sa gang member

Police said Niphon Kanchat was found at a house in Phruek Latda housing estate in Pathum Thani's Lam Luk Ka district after his close aide Thatchakon Sosattham, who was also nabbed by police, told officers where his boss was hiding.

The police and military have their evil hands in every illicit business that generates money, that's a fact.

If the military wanted to end the "insurgency" in the southern provinces they could, because it's in actuality a handful of groups, but then there's no money in peace. About 30% of the military's budget goes where it should, the rest is siphoned off by the top brass.

This country would be infinitely better off without the police and military. If there was mass transporter technology -- and I controlled it, I might be inclined to transport the lot into deep space.

    D10,9, 8, 5, and 1 spot on!

What hypocrisy! The same military "elite" who were behind the 2006 coup are themselves "unusually rich". Was the former PM's cap on military budgets and war on drugs starting to hurt the side income of a few senior "leaders" who have their dirty hands in the drug trade? They are helping to poison our children, find them and lock them up no matter who they are.

Regardless of your political viewpoints we can all agree this cancer must be dealt with severely and anyone that is involved needs to go down.

With a billion baht worth of stocks obviously there must be some high influenced people involved or else how could they able to transport and smuggle such large quantity into Thailand from neighbor country. With some high influenced people involved, this case may be swept under the carpet soon and quiet down in the next few weeks.

The army of suspened officers and officers in "inactive positions" are soon bigger then the real army !
Even Thailand is the country in the World who have most generals per citizen !

Thais have known for a long time that the Police and the Army are heavily involved in the drugs business. This is of no surprize to anyone. The surprize of officials and officers is just a charade. Similarly, people have known for ages that the Police allow the casino business to operate. As Khun Chuvit pointed out yesterday, much to the visible embarrassment of the senior Police officers shown on TV, big casinos pay 2 million Baht per day to the Police while the small casinos pay 100,000 Baht per day. He even revealed the addresses of the casinos. Again, it's common knowledge.

Can someone remind us what the generals usually say is their main duty? I am a bit confused when I then read that high ranking army officers are involved in drug trafficking!

I have often commented on the dubious reputation of the military officers. Ever since they managed to become multi-millionaires cutting down vast areas of forest during the period the Khmer Rouge were there, they have never quite been as use and honest as they want people to believe. One should also ask why, when Pol Pot was on the run from international justice as a war criminal and for crimes against humanity, it was the generals and their junta that allowed him safe haven in Thailand. Of course, then there was no internet, no mobile phones and they could control 100% the flow of information reaching the public.

Also, not only drugs but people smuggling. Much of what goes on cannot possibly continue without the complicity of the police and/or military.

The business activities of police and military officers should be investigated also.

The country is so full of corruption unless the real top men and when are filtered out nothing will ever change.

Regrettably, another here today gone tomorrow situation.

This is not something new. Everybody up or down the line has got some benefit out of any of this transaction. Lets face it, whoever what generals or majors would be quietly let off when things cool down. I dare the media consistently keeping us update for the ongoing of this case until the end? Fat hope!

Any usually rich high ranking Army generals living near the Burmese border where drugs are known to be smuggled in would seem like a logical place to start .
