Rise in gun crime alarms police

Tighter controls urged amid rise in armed offending,

Violent crime is on the rise in Bangkok as troublemakers, and particularly teenagers, are increasingly reaching for guns during brawls and in drug-related incidents.

The shooting spree on the streets of Rama III Road on Jan 20 that resulted in the death of five people was the latest outbreak of gun crime, prompting police to consider tightening firearms controls nationwide.

A group of five young men, including an 18-year-old, allegedly shot at a pickup truck following a late-night pub brawl.

Well! You could stop the use of guns in nearly all Thai soaps on TV. Nearly all aguments on TV result in fighting and shooting, kipnap and abuse against women and the weak. The fact it is well known that the police would rather use their guns to kill a suspect (less paperwork), than try to stop them (shot in legs or arms) makes the criminal willing to use a gun when the odds are that if caught they have a minimum chance to make it to court. Check out UK soaps, one punch in the mouth every 10 programs, but still full of story! and no guns, knives or car chases.
