Pregnant woman says temple theft was act of desperation

A pregnant woman caught trying to steal money from a temple donation box for a second time begged not to be sent to prison yesterday, saying she had been acting out of desperation.

Anongnut Yuyued, seven months pregnant, wais the Buddha statue at Wat Kasattrathirat in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district of Ayutthaya province, where she was caught trying to steal donated money. SUNTHORN PONGPAO.

Anongnut Yuyued, 32, was arrested yesterday after being caught red-handed by tourists and workers as she tried to force open a donation box in the hall of Wat Kasatttrathirat in tambon Ban Phrom of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district.

    How magnamimous not to press charges against this poor soul? Temples already have more money than they know what to do with other than build more temples to further increas their income or finance monks to go shopping where they often spend such hard earned offerings on mobile phones and video games.
