Cabby arrested for robbery, rape

A taxi driver who says he is HIV-positive has been arrested in Bangkok for allegedly robbing and raping at least 10 passengers, Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy chief Saroj Phromcharoen police said on Monday.

Police received a report from a couple who hired Kaew Sangmuang, the 43-year-old cab driver, to transport them and their belongings, including a notebook computer, to their condominium in Ratchathewi district on Feb 15, Pol Maj Gen Saroj said.

The couple said the cab driver, after arriving at the condominium, told them that he had taken out all of their belongings. After the taxi left the couple discovered that their notebook computer was missing.

Mr Kaew on Feb 18 phoned the couple, demanding 6,000 baht in return for their notebook computer. They agreed to a meeting at a shopping mall in Lad Prao on the same day.

I have to ask why did the ladies who were raped not come forward when it happened? why did they not report it?
why did the people he robbed not report it?
did he wear a condom or not? i think he did not wear a condom.
These are very important questions to ask. it would have stopped this person from committing more crimes.
what is very important is how he knew he had HIV, and who he caught it from, or was he an ivdu?
This is a notifiable disease. so i must be tracked back to how he caught it and whom from, then all people who had contact with that person traced also. If he was an ivdu, then did he share needles?

Sad story – I am surprised that the taxi driver admitted he raped 10 women. I would have thought the police (and maybe the press) would be on the hunt for this guy.
Most of the time I have no problem with Taxi drivers. Some of them are really nice and a few are just scum. I avoid the bad (no meter) drivers outside of hotels and tourist attractions. The police could easily round them up if they wanted to...

Hmm, that's funny, I've been taking taxis every day for the past 10 years in Bangkok and have never had any problems. I find most cabby's courteous and reliable.
Nevertheless, the cab driver in the story needs to be put away for a long time.

I wonder how rife this acutally is, many taxi drivers in bangkok have an attitude problem.
I would not be suprised if this was the tip of the iceberg.

Now isn't that nice!? He was HIV-positive, but he used condoms, when he raped a woman! How sweet of him! I hope he will be put away for a long, long time!
