Don't you just love these blitzes and press conferences to show the police are effective when in fact it goes to show how unpoliced the city is. The police chief stating 'it's not enough' harks back to the war on drugs strategy to draw up targets of offenders that need to be 'hauled in' regardless of whether the numbers really exist. In this case turns out that at least half the weapns seized were licensed so technically the owners have done nothing wrong and should have their firearms returned to them.

"Police chiefs who failed to deliver results in their respective areas over the past five days would be transferred because they did not follow police policy, he said."

That threat is bad enough that evidence could have been planted, license and legal weapons confiscated to meet their quota. Innocent gun holders being framed, just like TRT's war on drugs.

Maybe if they tried working 5 days a week for 48 weeks of the year and didn't tell the bad guys they were coming they would find a lot more weapons

Monday’s Post described a government “scheme” called “welfare firearms” whereby the government sells various makes of guns at low prices to state officials. And they are surprised when they are stolen or resold! Is it any wonder why there is so much gun crime in Thailand. Even the army has difficulty keeping its weapons from being stolen let alone those incompetent officials with cheap guns. The US is awash with guns but Thailand is well up there too.

“Amazing Thailand” has never been truer.

234 guns in a city of nearly 10 million people over a 5 day period? Sounds like an outright failure. That's like saying there was one seized gun per day per each officer pictured with the guns. Also, I can't agree more with Bonzo D.3 - it really must be surreal to be praised for doing your job.

Guns, knives, clubs and bombs. Common. Don't expect police to do all the work. What is Society doing about it? Even with police enforcement, this would not stop unless society becomes the solution.

All the number total to about 500+ arms; if we pull the last 100 days news papers, at least 200 people would have been killed: so the problem is big or bigger, and if we are to extend this to the full country, the hidden or stashed up arms would be big, the number can be anybody's guess. All this display, with the TV and media is just a show, the Police as Executive should refrain, because vital information about the faces of the police personnel involved, or those captured is freely circulated.

It must be very strange to have a job that gets you your picture in the paper simply for carrying out your allotted task.
