Programmer on trial for lese majeste

A new lese majeste court case began on Tuesday with three prosecution witnesses giving testimony against 41-year-old computer programmer Surapak Puchaisaeng, from Bung Kan province.

Friends and supporters showed up to support Mr Surapak, and he appeared in good spirits when he saw them. He has been denied bail several times since his arrest last year.

The first witness was the Commerce Ministry registrar of the condominium the defendant had rented before his arrest.

A spurious charge, without any presentable evidence, resulting in a man being imprisoned for an entire year without trial. This is the 112 law that certain people want unchanged.

Like most LM cases this appears to be primarily based on one man's unsubstantiated accusations. These trials are a farce and a mockery, they reflect badly on the Thai judicial system.
