Drug dealing cop loses appeal

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld lower court verdicts sentencing a former police officer in Kamphaeng Phet province to 42 years and six months in prison for having methamphetamine pills in his possession with intent to sell.

Former Pol Lt-Col Prasit Klinhom, 69, who was a deputy police superintendent of Kamphaeng Phet, and his common law wife Payao Palapol, 53, were arrested on May 23, 2002 by undercover narcotics suppression police in a sting operation in Phran Kratai district of Kamphaeng Phet with 598 methemphetamine pills and a .357 pistol in their  possession.

The court of first instance on June 30, 2003 sentenced Payao to 14 years and Prasit to 42 years and six months in jail. Mrs Payao's sentence was commuted to seven years.

@ frenchy #3, interesting that you bring up the dead from the red-shirt “peaceful demonstration for democracy”. Yes, the one who is responsible for organizing and financing the red mob and the men in black should definitely be punished. 100 years in jail sounds about right but the death penalty is maybe the better option.

OK, he is a drug dealer, so far no one is talking about loss of life.
    42 years in a a Thai jail...

How many years in jail do the "military"and the one who order the murdering
of Thai National (red Shirts)got? We are talking deprivation of life here,
    not selling dope!
Soldiers killing foreign soldiers is an act of war, soldiers killing native
civilians is pure and simple murder, punishable by an international court of law.
That's in a civilised court of law!

Dear BP , that seems extraordinarily harsh , especially on a 70 year old.

Perhaps some comment on the sentencing guidelines would help us farangs understand a little more as this is a similar sentence to that given to murderers. Is this part of the "drug war"

Of even more interest perhaps would be some informed comment on when the four police sentenced to either death or life will have their appeals heard.
