Police remove 'Truth from Krabi' clip

Police in Krabi on Wednesday removed their video clip "The Truth from Krabi" from YouTube after it was widely criticised by both Thai and foreign netizens.

Last week, the Krabi police uploaded the four-and-a-half minute clip, with no English subtitles, to explain the legal process in connection with the sexual assault of a Dutch tourist by a Thai tour guide and to counter the claim by the 19-year-old victim's father that authorities allowed "easy" bail for the suspect.

However, the move appeared to have backfired because the clip received mostly negative comments, particularly about the police handling of the case. They were also criticised for not putting English subtitles into their clip.

Has it been removed ?? I watched it less than 10 seconds ago.Why should people protest about this ? I think it is a brilliant idea.The only way to make the Thai police/people in charge think is to to tell people what really goes on in this place and just how few rights a foreigner has here.We have the right to back home if we do not like being ripped off and we also have the right to use our money but apart from that not much else.The only time people here listens is when they loose money.The respons has been from mostly foreigners abroad . . . . so why did the Thai police make a video in Thai only ? not even English subs . . . . . . maybe

The video is removed in Thailand only but still circulated in other countries. I personally sent a copy to my friends in Australia asking them to forward to their friends.

Police has a mandate, just like in other countries.
In the dutch press, the father states that he is NOT critizing the Thai Police.
By posting "a video inrespons"???????? the police in Krabi made an error of judgement.
just like in the case itself,conduct is what is at stake, NOT mandate!!!!!

Now that the video is removed, what’s the next step? Is it time to accept responsibility for doing something foolish or sweep it under the rug and hope everyone forgets about this incident?

No matter how the authorities believe they control the people, people are a lot more informed than you think. It’s time for the police to wake up and acknowledge that people are aware of what is happening and if nothing is changed, eventually the people will demand action for inexcusable behavior.
