RAYONG - A rubber plantation owner was shot dead by a neighbour in a heated quarrel that stemmed from an irrigation dispute. Police are hunting for the gunman, who fled in his pickup truck.
Police and an emergency crew called to the crime scene in tambon Huai Thap Mon in Rayong's Khao Chamao district on Tuesday found Kittipong Uttamatanit, 73, a major rubber planter who was also a hardware shop owner, lying in a pool of blood. He was shot twice, in the chest and head, with .38 calibre bullets, police said.
Investigators later identified Somchai Chuaipitak, 47, as the sole suspect. Mr Somchai was said to have escaped in his red pickup truck after the shooting. He was still at large.
