Bali seeks 15 years for British woman on drug charges

DENPASAR - Indonesian prosecutors on Thursday sought a 15-year prison sentence for a British woman accused of smuggling 4.8 kilogrammes of cocaine into the resort island of Bali.

Lindsay Sandiford, 56, should also pay a fine of two billion rupiah (US$206,000) or serve an additional six months, chief prosecutor Lie Putra Setiawan told the Denpasar District Court.

Setiawan cited Sandiford's advanced age as the reason he did seek the death penalty.

D1 have to disagree, seems overly harsh if you ask me, punish the financiers and major profiteers of the drug business not the mules / end users who are not making their incomes completely off the back of illegal activity. Sensible people won't do it because of the harsh tariffs and only those really desperate for whatever reason seem to be lured into it.
Time for an overhaul asia wide, it has more pressing issues across the board

Is it just me, or does 15 years for smuggling 4.8 kilogrammes of cocaine seem lenient? Sentences that are on the low side can only encouraged this type of behaviour.
