Taxi drivers want fines to pay for treatment costs

The Transport Ministry should set up a fund to help taxi drivers who are victims of violence from passengers, drivers say.

The ministry's Land Transport Department should take responsibility for creating and managing the fund, said Surasee Wattanapong, a 42-year-old taxi driver and former member of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority's labour union.

He was speaking after three passengers brutally attacked 53-year-old female taxi driver Boonchuay Thongtae in Thawi Watthana district on Tuesday.
