Arsonists target security cameras in Yala

BANGKOK - Insurgents smashed, stole or set fire to more than 70 closed-circuit security cameras in six districts of the southern border province of Yala early Monday morning.

Pol Maj Gen Peera Boonliang, the Yala police chief, said the arsonists struck from 3am to 5am, in what appeared to be coordinated attacks.

A total of 76 CCTV cameras were damaged and three others stolen in 43 spots of the province.

ricefield - I love your comments! Next you'll be telling us there weren't even any reds in Bangkok at all during the protests.

Disc 23 - I don't have an exact count on how many fires were set by then reds because I truly believe that all of them were not. Some were and some were not. Evidence points to third parties in a number and some were set in buildings while they were under military control, somehow.

ricefield - all the reports, if you bothered to look, were written at different times during and after the conflict so varying numbers isn't surprising. Perhaps some were waiting for the fires to die down to get an exact count. So those same news agencies reds like to quote aren't good enough for you now? The point is, whether 35 or 36 or 39, reds destroyed multiple buildings and loyhaasip1 claimed the information wrong and a cheap shot. Perhaps you have the exact count?

Disc 19,20- So which was it, more than 30, 35 or 39? You have 3 offshore news organizations reporting 3 different numbers in 2 diffreent posts. The only number that seems to be consistent is the news agencies are all over 12,500 miles away from the action in Bangkok.

loyhaasip1 - might I suggest a few minutes of research next time? And a doctor's appointment for early onset dementia?

"Peace was largely restored in the city Thursday, a day after a military crackdown on anti-government protesters triggered rioting in which 39 buildings were burned. Officials at Center One, another gutted mall of 300 shops, estimated damage of at least 1 billion baht (about $31 million) and said 1,000 people were unemployed." http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2010/may/20/bangkok-counts-its-losses-after-downtown-rioting/

" and some Red Shirts burned down more 30 buildings as they fled Bangkok."

    loyhaasip1 - here's some information for you:

"Red-Shirts protesters set fire to the Stock Exchange, banks, at least two shopping centres (including Central World at the Red-Shirts main protest site), a TV station, a cinema which burnt to the ground, and hotels had to build barricades to protect themselves. The total number of burnt buildings was 35." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Thai_political_protests

"36 buildings in Bangkok, including a major shopping mall, stock exchange, banks and TV station, lie in cinders after being set ablaze by anti-government protesters" msnbc | Aired on May 20, 2010

"CCTV cameras have become favourite targets of the separatist militants in the deep South. They record street and business activities which could result in arrests or warrants against gang members."
Terrorists or common street criminal drug dealer gangs? Very simple really - unless you are so blind that you cannot see the real issue here - or perhaps you do not want to?

    Disc 10
    "Burned down 39 buildings"?
Sorry, I am getting on in years now and cannot recollect 39 buildings being burned down during this time. Please can you help this old man by naming, at least the top 10 of the 39 buildings that no longer exist in Bangkok after being burned down by these terrorists? - Thought not - Another cheap shot

  • Discussion 16 : 14 Jan 2013 at 23.1816

D10 the identity of perpetrators of said incidents in 2010 is open to question. Many things that seem clear cut from then are in fact unverifiable (or at least in court anyways).

The difference I was pointing out is that the insurgency in the south is a prolonged (6years +) campaign of terror that isn't endorsed by any community or its leaders, & seemingly has no reasonable political aim except to create an unstable region.
The insurgents engage in terrorist acts daily, killing indiscriminately (bombs) & also targeting state property, process & personnel.

Life isn't the same for locals in the region. That's the difference. sickening
