Disc 30 - Very valid points. A guy down the road from our house is the head Sargent in Phayao and is the nicest guy you could ever meet. We also have ZERO thefts in our area because of it which is a big plus anywhere.

Some people here are just so depressed about the police that they can't find anything they can appreciate, even on a positive news like this. If you think all police are bad, then you encourage the good ones to leave. There are good police too and they are people just like you and me. They have family, risk their life, and struggle to make ends meet with the little salary they earn. Worst yet, almost everyone hates them. So, who wants to be the police? Those who are so capable of criticizing every little thing, why don't you come and show others how to do it?

Poor education, zero economic prospects, and failure at every level of society - from the press, to the government, and all the fake, bought-off NGOs in between that are pursuing political agendas = rising crime.

Cheers BP, Because of this report I don't need to visit Ayutthaya on my next trip.

The crime must be very bad to employ people walking round the streets armed with HK assault rifles.

Maybe the police should employ the notion of detecting crime the way police forces around the world do and maybe pay their offices more so they don't have to extort money out of the citizens.

Oh well, looks like Europe again this year...

I am sure this outfit will help the police to collect protection fees. It reminds me of Don Vito Corleone's line: "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse”. Amazing Thailand – again.

bkksim #20 - It was BP's reporting not the man-in-charge.

As an immediate approach, it works. At the moment, it is only reactive. However, I believe criminals are always ahead of the law and law enforcement. Many prisoners have very high IQ. Methods in law enforcement need ongoing review and training provided for officers. BTW, when was the last time we heard about budget increased for the police force?

Kudos!! It's not that hard to innovate crime fighting.
