City's crime rate drops as officers don bulletproof vests and assault rifles

Ayuthaya police have a new weapon in the fight against crime.

Black-clad men armed with M16 assault rifles, part of Ayutthaya’s new crimebuster unit. Patrol police are scaring criminals into submission.

They have set up a new crimebuster unit of 12 heavily-built men carrying M16 assault rifles to patrol the streets.

    I like to see police doing there job.

    How is none of my business, as long as my family feels protected (by Thai Law)
    Tourist - local people - or Thai visitors they all have a basic right when visting Thailand or cities and towns............the basic right to be protected and served by the Royal Thai Police.

    The police spokesperson is, as usual, way off base.I, and a lot of other Americans, used to frequent Acapulco, Mexico for years but when similarly dressed, armed, law enforcement began patrolling the streets,we got scared and never went back. What a picture - men in black, wearing bp vests,carrying rifles,eyes covered,at the souvenir shop -" not look too violent " ?
