Police seize 20 elephant tusks

Police have seized 20 elephant tusks and arrested a police captain for smuggling the illegal cargo into Thailand, anti-animal trafficking sources revealed Sunday.

FREELAND Foundation, a Bangkok-based international organisation dedicated to eradicating wildlife trafficking, welcomed the seizure and arrest.

Thailand is scheduled to host the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (Cites) in Bangkok in March.

If it is illegal in Thailand, it seems the police are involved somehow.

"...The driver, a police captain, was ..." I, naive as I am, was always thinking, that the cops are paid to hunt the robbers. Silly me.

Wow!! its going to be busy muddy March month for Bangkok. International convention in eddangered spicies will also take place in BKK. Police Dept should allowed its own people attend this convention. It will save more money than sending them out to educational convention elsewhere. This police should be assigned to convention instead having him shuffle to inactive post.
