Abhisit to be questioned by DSI on police contracts

Former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will also be asked to testify about the abandoned contracts for police buildings approved during his government's tenure, Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdith said on Wednesday.

Mr Abhisit's former deputy prime minister, Suthep Thaugsuban, is already in the DSI spotlight over the failure of the single contractor to complete the construction of  396 police station buildings worth 5.84 billion baht and 163 police flats worth 3.7 billion baht.

Speaking in the DSI's weekly press conference, Mr Tarit said his office had found evidence that eight construction firms had sent a letter to Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep opposing the decision by the Royal Thai Police Office (RTPO) to give a single company the contract to carry out both projects nationwide.

boontong.'CMfarang #1 - The rice scheme has not failed. If you or anyone who discovered and has evidence of wrongdoing or sabotaging, you can report to the relevant authority.'

There is no wrongdoing, corruption proven here either (but funny they are looking), perhaps a poor decision and what politician doesn't make poor decisions and a company that has failed in its contract agreement. The current government should have been on this a year ago instead of extending the deadline several times.

Yet again it will all blow over without an independent investigation and a stronger press. Money talks or in this case keeps quiet.

Boontong #7 - The only reason nothing has come out now is because PTP are in power. They even had the audacity to state the G2G deals were a secret that only the PTP were allowed to know about. Keeping secrets from the people and the opposition party is a red flag of corruption and incompetence. And the rice scheme didn't fail heay? Where have you been for the past year? Thailand knocked off number 1 spot as rice seller. Millions of tons building up in stockpiles. No buyers. What would you buy Boontong, a kg of rice at Lotus for $5 or the same rice from Lotus for $2. Simple economics mate....

Democrat Special Investigation (DSI) ist just doing its job as it is ordered from the government. No independent investigation is possible because the gov. has direct control over the DSI, Police and Attorney Genereal.
The separation of powers ( executive, legislature, judiciary ) does not exist in Thailand.

Obviously it is good that all criminal and corruption cases should be investigated, independent of the political party. But somehow I get the impression that now the DSI is only interested in new cases against DEM politicians. What happened with all the cases against PT politicians and red-shirts which were started while we had a DEMs government? Are all these cases already closed? Was anybody convicted? Somehow I don’t remember any headlines about any convictions.
Or are all these cases on hold because the DEMs only started them because they did not like PT and the red-shirts – some people would say they are all politically motivated.

Awarding a single contractor to build hundreds of buildings was not right in the first place.

Ummm, should they not be demanding that PCC return the money they were paid, not just pointing fingers.
